[ABOUT]

Alves de Jesus’s work explores the delicate interplay between control and freedom, using water and salt as central elements in his practice, which takes on an almost alchemical character. As salt oxidizes, it forms serpentine shapes on the paper, evoking wall infiltrations, unknown cosmograms, or abstractions that flirt with the mineral and the celestial. The mineral green tones reveal images that could be fragments of stones, stellar explosions, or cells in formation.

In addition to his works on paper, Alves de Jesus creates sculptures in resin, salt, and calcite, echoing the organic forms found in his paintings. Salt, an element of deep historical and biblical symbolism, plays a central role in his work, connecting past and present in a sensitive way. His pieces reflect the inherent duality of the materials
he works with, requiring a balance between technical mastery and spontaneity. Alves de Jesus’s work moves between nature, history, and abstraction, revealing the hidden beauty in the processes of life’s transformation.

The reaction of salt in contact with the surface creates forms that resemble crystallized tears, evoking a silent melancholy that insinuates itself between the danger of corrosion and the vibrancy of color. In his practice, the material is in a constant state of mutation, directly related to the concept of spiritual abstraction, where time and matter dissolve into images of ephemeral permanence.
