Lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil

Renata Haar’ seamlessly combines transparency and invisibility, utilizing materials like fiberglass to manipulate light and create delicate, yet tangible surfaces. Her exploration of transparency and translucent light evokes a sense of fluidity, where her works reside in an in-between state, blurring the lines between presence and absence. The translucent nature of her work invites viewers to engage deeply with the ethereal qualities she crafts.
Haar’s use of a sort of spiritual minimalism focuses on the subtle power of the neutral. Her tones and pared-down forms emphasize the invisible, creating an understated tension that explores the interaction between materiality and the intangible. Her sculptures convey a sense of strong fragility, maintaining a balance between delicacy and strength with every sculptural gesture. In her drawings, each gesture evokes a hidden language of light, as if the lines themselves are channels for an unseen illumination.
Whether working in paper, stone, or other media, Haar’s work reflects a deep contemplation of impermanence and resilience. Her images, marked by raw textures and enduring forms, embody a kind of brutalist classicism, where rough surfaces suggest both fragility and eternity. This tension gives her abstract works a meditative quality that engages the viewer in a reflection on strength, materiality, and the passage of life.
