Lives and works between Poços de Caldas, Brazil and Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amaral develops a sculptural approach that investigates interactions between materials of diverse origins, combining industrial residues, biological components, and minerals to produce interdependent systems. His practice articulates physical and chemical processes that result in structures with unstable configurations, where relationships between components are continuously reorganized. The installations generated by these experiments present spatial arrangements that suggest new models of material organization and transformation.
Amaral's method integrates laboratory procedures and material investigations, generating compositions that operate under their own internal logics. These structural configurations do not adhere to static interpretations but propose continuous interactions between their elements, both physically and processually. His work examines the limits of form and the transience of material compositions, questioning fixed categories and conventional approaches to sculpture. Amaral constructs self-contained ecosystems where unexpected materials coexist, exploring the malleability of matter and the fluidity between form and image.
Adriano Amaral earned his master's degree from the Royal College of Art in London. His recent exhibitions include Kunsthalle Recklinghausen, Germany (2024); MAM-SP, São Paulo (2024); Galerie Fons Welters, Amsterdam (2023); Galeria Jaqueline Martins, Brussels (2023); Casa Gabriel, São Paulo (2023); Cloud Seven, Brussels (2023); Instituto Artium, São Paulo (2023); Galeria Jaqueline Martins, São Paulo (2022); Galeria Jaqueline Martins, Brussels (2021); Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art, Rotterdam (2020); Rodeo Gallery, London (2019); Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art, the Netherlands (2017); Bielefelder Kunstverein, Germany (2016); De Ateliers, Amsterdam (2016); Estudios Tabacalera, Madrid (2016); Frieze, London (2015); Mendes Wood DM, São Paulo (2015); Múrias Centeno, Porto (2015); SixtyEight Art Institute, Copenhagen (2017); MMOMA, Moscow (2016); Beelden Aan Zee, The Hague (2016); Caixa, Rio de Janeiro (2015); and Zabludowicz Collection, London (2014).
