Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York

[ABOUT]

Adam Milner focuses on the often overlooked support systems and residues of daily life. Rooted in a slow accumulation and preservation of quotidian ephemera, Milner employs routines and rules to cull from various moments from daily life— sleeping, eating, walking, working, circulating blood, or having relationships. Intimate fragments are contemplated and recontextualized, taking form as sculpture, drawing, intervention, text, and image. As parts are considered, configured, and reframed in the artist’s home, they take on unique forms which invite viewers to question the material reality of social connections.

By centering readymade and found objects, ideas of preservation, display, and context become central. Drawing methods from museums, archives, retail, and the home, Milner challenges expectations and hierarchies around keeping, caring, and sharing. Milner’s projects blur boundaries between private and public, work and leisure, and relish in complications around how we identify or merge with the things we make and consume. Aware of an artist’s special relationship to these themes, Milner ultimately reflects the affective experiences unique to living in the world as an artist.

Adam Milner is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Milner’s work has been shown in galleries, museums, publications, public space, online, lectures, and at home. Projects have been created within and in response to the archives of various museums, including the Warhol, the Clyfford Still Museum, and the Greer Lankton collection of the Mattress Factory.
